11/7/2022 2 Comments Gang operations saints row 3![]() These characters are a crucial part of Saints Row history, but they’ve had their time to shine. RELATED: Saints Row Preview - A New Gang, A New Game Engine, And A New City To Take Over There’s not much more room to play around with them bar complete rewrites of their characters, which basically already happened between Saints Row 2 and 3 anyway. Frankly, they’ve been pushed to their limits. This team resurfaced in Saints Row 3 - expanding with the likes of Kinzie and Oleg, - then Saints Row 4, and Gat out of Hell, even making an appearance in the alternate universe title Agents of Mayhem. There were others, but most became inconsequential by the sequel which is where Shaundi and Pierce were roped into the Third Street Saints, quickly becoming as iconic within the fandom as Gat and The Boss themselves. The original Xbox 360 game featured a small gang in the city of Stilwater headed by Keith David’s Julius and the turncoat undercover cop Troy. We didn’t see Shaundi, Pierce, Kinzie, Zemo, or anyone else, and there was definitely no sign of Zinyak. ![]() The game doesn’t seem to feature Johnny Gat or his rag-tag team of gangsters at all. Instead, it’s something fresh, and that means a fresh cast. The tone isn’t dialing back to basics as per the first two games but it doesn’t feel like a continuation of the most recent games’ unrelenting chaos either. And after dominating Stilwater, that may be exactly what they need.Saints Row’s reboot was shown off in a glamorous trailer at Gamescom yesterday, in a short clip featuring explosions, car chases, funky new weapons, and, most importantly, no familiar faces whatsoever. Even though Morning Star might be a powerful entity, the Saints have proven themselves worthy of a good challenge. The game starts with the player upsetting Steelport’s balance of power, which will undoubtedly have far-reaching effects. “If they weren’t around, everything would descend into chaos.” “They’re the number two in the Syndicate, so when Phillipe is busy they’re the ones who assume control and make sure that things run on time,” says Jaros. ![]() They’re so close that they’re often referred to as a single entity. Viola and Kiki are art dealers with refined tastes and a penchant for human trafficking. Loren runs Morning Star-and the Syndicate-with the help of the DeWynter sisters. Eventually, the tech-focused Decker gang was brought into the fold, creating the Syndicate. After selling weapons to that gang’s Mexico operations, Loren realized that a partnership could be lucrative for both parties. Those international ties are how Morning Star hooked up with Steelport’s Luchador gang. “Where the others are more local and isolated, Morning Star is the more international organization and it has far-reaching tentacles,” says lead writer Steve Jaros. Simultaneously, the gang outfits illegal organizations, governments, and militaries with weapons as well. For instance, Morning Star operates a high-end gun boutique in town, which sells weapons to people who have the cash. It’s led by Belgian arms smuggler Phillipe Loren, and the organization maintains legal and illegal operations worldwide. Morning Star is the oldest surviving gang in Steelport, and as such it commands considerable respect among criminals. While Volition is putting more of an emphasis on populating the town of Steelport with more memorable people, its gangs are just as powerful as any that the Saints have encountered on their rise to power. We’ve spent time delving into the individuals that players will be interacting with in Saints Row: The Third, but don’t think that the game is turning into a character study. As the 3rd Street Saints rose to power in Stilwater, they’ve had to work around and eventually supplant organizations like Los Carnales, the Vice Kings, and the Sons of Samedi. Gangs have been a focus of the Saints Row franchise since the series was conceived. ![]() Today, we’re examining an organization that directly affects each and every one of those characters: the Morning Star gang. All week long, we’ve been taking a look at some of the individuals who have shaped the criminal world of Saints Row: The Third. ![]()
